Synopsis
Proof of Birth tells the story of Luis Gonzalez, a young illegal Mexican immigrant on a quest to obtain a legal driver's license in New York City.

About the director
José Luis Orbegozo recently graduated from the Columbia University M.F.A. film program. His thesis short film PROOF OF BIRTH was honored as a Faculty Selects film at the 2007 Columbia University Film Festival -the highest recognition for a film project. With his writing partner Michael Niederman, Jose Luis wrote the feature script SAINT CARLOS OF GOWANUS, selected to the 2006 NALIP- Screenwriters Lab, sponsored by TimeWarner. SAINT CARLOS was also recognized as a Faculty Selects feature screenplay at the 2007 Columbia University Screenwriting Competition. Jose Luis, a Spanish teacher in his native Colombia, is currently developing an educational TV series for CUNY-TV, directed towards the immigrant communities of New York City.
